5 Ways to Use Performance Fabrics to Improve Your Home

Performance Fabrics Improve Your Home

I remember how excited I was to purchase my first sofa. It was brand new, and it wasn't a hand-me-down or a tag sale piece I had left behind at my college apartment. Then one day, it happened: chocolate crumbs missed the plate and got smushed onto a cushion. I was devastated!

I was able to get most of the stain out, but not all of it.  Had the sofa been covered with performance fabric, that chocolate stain would have easily wiped away completely!

Performance fabrics are durable, super easy to clean, and beautiful! Today I'll be sharing five of the best places to use performance fabrics in your home.

1. Sofas, Chairs & Ottomans

Don't want the same mishap as I had?  Request performance fabrics when purchasing new furniture. If you are considering slipcovers or reupholstering your current furniture, talk to your interior designer, upholsterer, or workroom specialist, like me!  I can help you choose the best performance fabric to add beauty to your room and protect your furniture investment.

This sofa is covered in a performance fabric. I tested the fabric to show how the liquid beads up instead of being absorbed into the material. No stains!

2. Curtains & Drapes In Main Rooms

Custom window treatments are also an investment. In heavily used rooms such as kitchens and family rooms, window treatments are often used daily and have a greater risk of getting stained. Again, performance fabrics will help maintain the beauty of the material as well as the overall design.

3. Indoor Area Rugs in High Traffic Areas

Think you can't have a beautiful, soft area rug in a well-used room or because you have pets? You can! Many area rugs are designed with easy-to-clean fibers that stand up to pet hair, dander, accidents, dirt, and more. Forget the awful, scratchy "indoor-outdoor" rugs from long ago; today's performance rugs are gorgeous and inviting.

4. The Perfect Custom Bedding

Performance fabrics are eco-friendly and allergen-free, which makes them a perfect choice for custom bedding. You don’t have to figure out how to remove and replace your bed skirt or wonder if your duvet cover will fit in your washer.

These stain-resistant fabrics are low maintenance and only require spot cleaning and light vacuuming. Trust me, you’ll sleep easier in a beautiful, clean bedroom.

5. Outdoor Furnishings that Last

Outdoor living is where performance fabrics began. Fortunately, they are now available in many textures, colors, and patterns beyond vibrant colored solids and cabana stripes.

With these fabrics on your outdoor and semi-outdoor furniture, you can relax and know a light vacuuming and regular wiping are all that is needed to maintain them. Performance fabrics are mold and mildew resistant, stain and water-resistant, and colorfast (color doesn’t lose its intensity).

Are you ready for your next home project?  When you choose performance fabrics, you are making a long-lasting investment. Your furnishings will be durable, fade-resistant, easy to maintain, and beautiful!
