How to Refresh Your Current Furnishings to Update Your Space

Are you tired of hearing about supply chain issues?  Me, too! Unfortunately it's simply part of the current custom furnishings industry.  I've had several clients waiting one year or more for furniture they've ordered.  Today, I'm offering a few suggestions on how to use what you have to avoid the wait.

1. Give New Life to Your Pieces with Reupholstery

If you have good quality furniture that no longer fits your aesthetic, or if the seat cushions have seen better days, consider reupholstering.  Update a piece with new fabric and reinforce the springs, or simply replace the foam in the cushions.  Although there can be a wait for custom work, you can have "new" furniture sooner.

2. Refresh Sofas & Chairs with New Cushions & Slipcovers

Loveseat before, and after with slipcover.

Slipcovers are another option for updating your furniture.  These are especially great if you simply want to change the look or style, want to protect your piece from sun or stains, or want to launder the covers. Saggy seat cushions?  Replace the foam and you'll be sitting in comfort again.

3. Reinvent Your Furnishings for New Function

Do you have a piece of furniture that holds very fond memories, but it's beyond repair or is not worth a slipcover or reupholstering? Consider reinventing it. Use some of the fabric from it to create new accent pillows, or if the seat cushions are intact, they may make nice dog beds.  Have other ideas?  I'd love to hear them--- leave a comment below.

Before you buy new, take a look around at what you have with an objective eye.  If you are not sure, give me a call and I can help you assess your furniture and we can brainstorm some ideas.  By reviving your existing furniture rather than buying new, you can not only avoid a very long wait time, but you will also be reducing waste in landfills.
