Shades vs. Drapery: How to Select the Best Option for Your Space?

I'd be hard-pressed to say which I like better, drapery panels or shades. Both are stunning in a home, but since they function differently, they are not interchangeable. Today, I'll be sharing the qualities of each to help you decide which is suitable for your space.

Shades: Prime Qualities & Placement

Shades are great for small windows or those with limited wall space around them. You can install them inside the window frame allowing beautiful trim to show or outside the frame to provide more light control.

There are many fabric and design options for Roman shades to completely customize them.  Traditional Roman shades are timeless and not fussy. Relaxed Roman and London shades give a softer look while functioning like traditional Romans.

Drapery: Prime Qualities & Placement

Drapery panels can make a room look larger and add a design element with decorative hardware. Adding additional linings help them become energy efficient. Blackout linings for panels in bedrooms are ideal for light control.

Most people think of drapery panels as traditional, but they can be contemporary or transitional with different pleats or hardware.

Are You Undecided?

Which is the best option for you? If you like both, think about your home's style. Is it more traditional, contemporary, or somewhere in between? This may be the deciding factor for you.

Consult with me for a professional opinion before investing. When you work with me, we start with a discovery call.

Here’s a glimpse into what happens after your discovery call:

  • I’ll ask you to email me with what you have in mind, along with a few photos of your window (s) and rough measurements.

  • Then, I’ll give you ideas based on the room, the window, the overall space, and starting costs.

  • Next, we schedule an in-home design consultation, to which I’ll bring samples and fabric books and take measurements.

Selecting the right window treatments will give you peace of mind and NO regrets!

If you're ready to find window treatments that make you smile every day, let's talk!

Until next time,

Laura
