3 Key Takeaways on Turning 60

Recently, I turned 60. I knew it was coming and I still wasn't ready. The differences between 50 and 60 are far greater than they are between 30 and 40 or 40 and 50.

In this blog post, I will take you along my journey of discovery. Some of you will nod in agreement, and others may benefit from my experience…

When it’s Time to Change…Rearrange…What You’re Gonna Be….

These are words paraphrased from a Brady Bunch song. Those who know me well know that I’m a huge BB fan. The kids weren’t singing about menopause or getting older, but I think the song fits. Aging brings changes in hormones and metabolism which mean that illnesses, aches and pains last longer, and mental and physical changes occur.

Instead of giving up, I’ve rearranged my lifestyle to be the older version of me I want to be. I've adjusted my diet and switched from high-impact exercises to modified or low-impact exercises, and I feel great. (sha-na-na-na-nah)

Make Every Day Matter

My husband and I have had many fun-filled milestone birthdays and anniversaries spent with families and friends or on trips.

As we’ve aged, we've also had to change or cancel plans due to deaths in the family or personal illnesses. We could have complained but didn't; we were both very happy to be together and in general good health.

We embrace and celebrate healthy, average days.

A beautiful sunrise, a great reminder to celebrate every day.

Life is Too Short to Live Your Life for Others

60 isn't so bad after all; with experience comes knowledge. In the past 10-15 years, I've learned to listen to my body during work and workouts to avoid injuries. I am much more confident and don't worry so much about what others think of me.

My discoveries: Take care of your body, and your body will take care of you. With age, you may need to scale back on or adjust what worked for you previously. And please, do not worry about what others think of you.

Until next time,
